Fantastic place
I had a last minute work trip planned in the area and was struggling to find availability anywhere. I stumbled across this place and decided to book. I’m so glad I did because what a lovely experience it was! The hotel rooms, dining areas and grounds are just lovely. The spa and gym facilities were amazing, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and modern everything was.
I just wanted to mention how amazing the staff were. From the receptionists, spa team and waiters, everyone was so friendly, welcoming and genuine. Travelling along can sometimes feel daunting, but they made me feel so comfortable. I couldn’t complain about a thing, and will definitely return!

Good standard and good facilities
The staff are polite, courteous.and very helpful. The hotel is clean and well appointed, but needs updating and maintaining.
The spa facilities are excellent and fitness instructors very professional. I would like to particularly mention Jackie who taught aqua. I have been to many Aqua classes and I have to say this was one of the best I have attended. The classes were fun and engaging so you didn't realise how hard you were working your body. Jackie provided different options for each exercise based on capability. Really enjoyable classes and if I lived here would be coming every week.

Great stay
Treated my wife to a 2 day spa break somewhere different. It certainly didn't disappoint. All the staff are really nice and helpful. The spa was really nice and clean great facilities. Our room was really spacious and clean nice bathroom. We had bed breakfast and evening meal. Every meal we had was present nice and very hot and tasty.

A nice little surprise!
An overall lovely place! We stayed in room 4 which was beautiful! Great amenities and the shower is amazing!
The pool and spa facilities are good. Our massages were okay, but could have done with a little more pressure being applied as it was a tension massage but that is more a personal preference.
Food in the brassiere was okay, the ceased wrap was a little dry and could have done with more sauce.
The food in the main restaurant/grill was delicious! Ribeye steak was cooked perfectly. The food is fresh and quick between courses. The afternoon tea was impeccable! Compliments to the pastry chef! By far the best cakes and scone I’ve ever had.
The gardens are okay, but not as “grand” as I imagined they would be, and they could use some citronella candles or something around the tables. You get absolutely hounded by bugs if you sit outside!
Overall a lovely place. Great staff and good amenities. Would definitely go again.

Fantastic experience.
Been to lots of hotels both in the UK and elsewhere and I can genuinely say that some of the staff here are the nicest I’ve ever come across. Diane in the Brasserie especially was so helpful and attentive!
The spa was lovely too, amazing facilities and very clean. I love that the staff take you down to the changing rooms and explain what to do. I’ve never seen such clean changing rooms before! No need for a padlock for the lockers either, as they’re wristband activated.
The room was also fantastic. Massive bed and lots of storage, only downside was it got very warm in there and being on ground floor we didn’t want to open a window. Very clean again though!
We had a few drinks in the bar area, and the bar staff were lovely, really talented and friendly. It felt like a nice upscale bar, and they couldn’t do enough for us. We then ate in the dining room, and Shannon was probably the best host we’ve had. She was so good with all the tables, felt really natural chat and she was extremely on it with everybody. An absolute credit.
Id 100% recommend coming here, and we will most definitely be back. Incredible experience!

Unfortunately we could not find ANY bins or ANY facilities that would allow for a responsible disposal of cigarette butts in the outdoor areas or within the bar areas. This became a bit of an issue. When I suggested to my wife that she should put the cigarette butt in a tissue and dispose of it in the bin in room she pointed out that not only would it smell it could also be interpreted as smoking in the actual room which would have attracted the £150.00 ‘cleaning fee’ detailed on the Ts & Cs.
We had no issue respecting the hotel’s no smoking/vaping policy but they do need to provide some way of disposing cigarette butts in the outside area, especially as the do not seem to have the designated smoking areas advertised on their website.

Lovely but disappointing when raised an issue with hotel manager and was unresolved and happy to loose loyal guests
We arrived at during a heatwave and were greeted by the lovely reception staff, we went to the bar for complimentary cocktails which were beautiful, we were with our elderly mum so for us it wasn’t about the spa but spending f time together enjoying the environment and the food. The staff were amazing, but the evening meal was disappointing and all meals returned. Long story short after speaking to Jude Diamond (hotel manager) who was only interesting in terms and conditions we will not be returning . Suggestion 4* hotel cold drinking water points would be appreciated.

Beautiful hotel but ….
A really lovely looking hotel with beautifully manicured grounds, perfect for a wedding or special celebration. The room, although rather dark was comfortable and clean and the en-suite extremely large and well equipped. What really let down my stay was the lack of staff and therefore lack of a warm welcome at check-in. I wondered whether I wasn’t waiting to check-in at the correct place because I didn’t see one sign for reception. I waited 15 minutes until a finally a fourth member of staff managed to issue my room key. Not the warmest of welcomes so overall disappointed.

Excellent spa break
I booked an overnight spa package for myself and 3 friends. Thornton Hall was the ideal choice, location is stunning, staff are so friendly and helpful and facilities are excellent.
We really enjoyed the spa, particularly the outside garden facilities, jacuzzis, sauna and sunbeds.
We ate in the Brasserie for lunch and Thornton Grill for dinner, food and service in both were first class.
My only complaint was my friends room was far superior to mine, I presumed they had been given a free upgrade. My own room felt fairly small especially with sloping ceiling.

Great spa break

Pleasant Stay

Staff are lovely, room is on a par with a Premier Inn (with the Premier Inn coming in 1st place). The evening restaurant, although nicely decorated - we felt the food was very much 'over-priced'. £47 for a steak - on a plate and half a tomato, with no other trimmings.

Five Star Experiance
Another fantastic stay at Thornton Hall. Room was amazing - Room 5 in the main building. We had bed & breakfast but also had an evening meal in the main dining room. Service was exceptional and the food was too. Spa is really good and although it was busier than usual you still got plenty of time in each part of the spa. Breakfast is really nice also. Just very good value for money.

Gorgeous stay
Stayed here with a friend on Saturday and we had the most amazing time. The spa was gorgeous and being able to order champagne and cocktail to the outdoor area was lovely touch.

Only let down was the DJ
Recently attended a wedding a the hotel. I must say first off the staff were fantastic with a special shout out the the older gentleman who seated us and looked after us during breakfast. He knows how to look after guests and interact whilst remaining friendly but professional. Our room was lovely but rather warm even with a fan on and patio door open but that was a minor thing. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars was due to the resident DJ who did the music for the wedding party. A DJ's job is to know their audience, read the room and basically keep people on the dance floor sadly these DJ's (as I think 2 gentleman where there at some points, which is even worse) didn't have a clue. Playing songs from the 50s and 60s for an audience who weren't even born then just doesn't work. Some people had asked for certain songs or to play some more up to date and more popular tunes but nothing came of it. It certainly didn't spoil the evening as everything else was pretty much perfect. So 5 stars for the Hotel and especially the staff but -1 for the DJ.

We had a lovely time at this hotel for our 15th wedding anniversary. The Spa was lovely and was so nice to be able to sit outside in the sun with a drink around the Jacuzzi . The staff were very friendly , we left our bags at reception as we was too early to check in so went to the spa first, when we came back to collect our room key and bags it was.lovely to hear they have already took them.up to our room. I'm not sure if we may have had a room upgrade as the room was really lovely, big bath with TV in and nice balcony with an amazing view. we also had a mini bite sized cake with happy 15th anniversary really nice touch ! would definitely return!
The only slight issue we had was we thought it was a shame they don't allow you to use the spa the morning or departure unless you pay we've never experienced this before. Also, we had allowance for food of 30 pound and decided to get the steak which was 38 so was.morw than happy to pay the extra however I found it odd the steak charge was.literally just for the steak you had to pay extra if wanted chips and a mushroom which I thought was a bit much . Otherwise , no complaints at all had a wonderful time

Carl is the best!
We stayed at the hotel for a wedding and had breakfast this morning, Friday 29th May 2026. Carl greeted and served us, and honestly he was absolutely fantastic. Such a lovely gentleman who could not do enough for us. He was so polite, friendly and genuinely happy in his job, which really made our morning.
It’s rare to come across someone who gives such outstanding customer service, and I really hope management recognise what an asset he is to the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he treated every guest with the same warmth and kindness.
We would genuinely come back just to see Carl again. A real credit to the hotel.

Fantastic unless you’re a smoker
An incredibly luxurious spa experience. The staff were great. The food was great. The facilities were great. The rooms were great. The prices were reasonable. My only gripe is that I couldn’t go with my husband, who’s a smoker, because theres no designated smoking or vaping area by the outdoor hot tubs. As an asthmatic ex-smoker, I hate the smell of smoke and breathing in other’s exhalations. However, outside areas should be offer a smoking/vaping section at least.
I’m sure it’s a very divisive issue, but there is room for a smoking section and outdoors should be shared.

Another wonderful stay!
This is our go-to place for a short break. The hotel has some amazing offers, although by the time we’ve factored in spa treatments, cocktails and dinners…….but we love the vibe of the hotel. The staff here are fantastic. So friendly and helpful. The spa is probably the best we’ve been to, and generally access is included in the room rate. I had two treatments which were so relaxing - 90 minutes well spent! The hotel does a 2-4-1 cocktail menu from about 3-6 pm and we take full advantage. Dinner was fabulous. He had lamb rump and I had steak frites. Both delicious. The Black Forest tiramisu was nice but I prefer the original. We were upgraded for our room to a very large double/double (thank you - we appreciated it). A lovely big room, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast is generous and the new hot plates etc are great. Everything was piping hot and replenished frequently. Another great stay - on a bank holiday Monday - and we’re planning our next visit!!

Spa Break Experience
My daughter and I booked a spa break with food and a spa treatment. The hotel is lovely, our room was very nice and comfortable. Our evening meal and cooked breakfast were both very tasty. The only thing that let the whole experience down was being charged for changing the spa treatment - it was mentioned at the time of the treatment but not at time of booking to it was a bit of a surprise but only a minor detail and overall the experience was favourable.

Lovely grounds. Room well equipped.
Customer service excellent in parts, but reception staff quite challenging and defensive when issues raised.
Lacking consideration such as placing elderly guests in distant upstairs rooms and not carrying bags of 88 year old lady.
No trust or respect for guests - locked out of room before checkout due to outstanding payment due, despite security deposit and unlike most hotels that present a bill on departure.
Billing process complex and no reply to written complaint or acknowledgement after several days.

The rooms are always great and so is the breakfast.
The gym is also a nice added extra.

Staff are very friendly and it was a seamless check in .
My room was beautiful very clean .
The shower is not hot , maybe it’s time of day but both times I used it , I did not enjoy it was not relaxing.
The towel rail was so cold it had condensation on it , towel rails should be warm .
Breakfast was very busy , sadly because of this all the food was coming out into the food troughs at seperate times , you would get a bit of bacon but then there would be no sausage , no eggs or hash browns , then when one filled 2 others were empty, all the pastries had gone . I was on a really good overnight offer, I would have been really miffed if I had paid full price . I ordered about of tea to be brought to my room ,this took 20 minutes, I offered to take myself, it was not hot when it arrived!
The Afternoon tea is very overpriced , the sandwiches were non existent, the cakes were a bit sad too , the tea was weak and the service was poor for £39 per head you refills without having to ask !
Would I book again , I am not sure , I think breakfast needs more organisation to cater for the amount of bookings it was not good , I like a warm shower also and good food and service .

Perfect
Everything was perfect. The hotel is absolutely stunning, that much that I am actually considering getting married here after a recent spa night. Breakfast was so nice and fresh. The spa was great along with reasonably priced drinks. And the staff were all 5*, from reception to bar staff to waiters. Ria at breakfast couldn’t have done anymore to help us. Thank you for a great night away :)

I booked this hotel for my mum and dad as a gift for their Ruby wedding.
I can't begin to explain how good the staff are at this hotel, I'd like to say a HUGE thankyou to Matthew (reservations). He went above and beyond to ensure that their stay was perfect. I couldn't of asked for anything more. He was brilliant and kept me informed via email very promptly. My mum and dad's room was beautiful and they had decorated it lovely for their celebration.
Mum and dad thoroughly enjoyed their stay which consisted of bed, breakfast, £30pp for their evening meal and a cream tea and robes for the spa.
Amazing place, amazing staff and an amazing night away ❤️ ✨️

Relaxation at its best.
Relaxing rejuvenating stay. We took advantage of the Wowcher deal for DBB with spa access from noon the day of arrival. Not forgetting the free cocktail. Great spa with a variety of experiences. The ice cave and outdoor jacuzzi are vying fir top spot for me. Room was lovely everything you need. Had a great sleep. We ate in the terrace with a view over the gardens. (Sadly it never stopped raining so we didn't get the opportunity to look round them). Dinner was exceptional. We went over the allocation, but you could easily have had a couple of courses within that. Lots of choice at dinner and breakfast. I would highly recommend and we will definitely be back

Fantastic Spa Break
Fantastic stay at Thornton hall. I got the spa package including access to the spa, £30pp towards dinner and breakfast. The spa was lovely, even thought it was raining we used the outdoor hot tub and the staff brought drinks out to us which was great. The dinner was in a beautiful room, food was exceptional and service couldn’t have been better. The room was huge with a lovely bed and large bath. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Highly recommend for a weekend spa getaway!

Disappointing due to Booking.com
It’s consistently good
The fact I’m still awaiting a refund from Booking.com as they seriously messed up the booking and agreed to refund. This was about 6 weeks ago and still not been refunded.

Overall I feel like the hotel trades on weddings/events and I certainly wouldn’t hurry to stay here again.
The best thing about the hotel was the staff. They were amazing and I could not fault any of them.
The hotel itself was a disappointment. The first room we were allocated was fine: corporate vibes, small, not very inspired and dated. We asked to move rooms as the bed felt very small- it was as advertised so it was just a request not a complaint.
Luckily we were able to move into the main building and Room 2. The main building decor is much nicer and the room was certainly more as I had originally expected. But for a 4 star hotel charging high prices, it lacked the level of upkeep that you’d expect: no tv remote control (although a fantastic receptionist hunted one down for us), the bedside light didn’t work and it just felt generally like it needed a bit of tlc (esp the floorboards!). I would also hope for nicer amenities than were provided: separate shampoo and conditioner for example.
The spa was a major let down. We were there on a Saturday afternoon so it was busy. But charging £9.50 for a robe seems excessive (esp as the robe I was given felt like it would be the right size for my 11 year old!). The facilities felt dated and not at all like I was in a relaxing environment.
The food was fine (we had room service) although I nearly fell off the bed when I realised a pint of coke had cost £9.50.

This hotel is not a 4 star hotel, the rooms are not up to standard
The pool area is lovely.
We saw rats running on the lawn of the property while in the bar on the first night. We went for dinner then and the rats were running by the window while we were eating. We were unable to eat the food at the restaurant and complained to staff. We spoke to the reception staff who didnt seem to concerned about the presence of rats right outside the restaurant.
The rooms were not clean with dust all over the phone, TV and cabinets. The mattresses and pillows had no protectors on them they were all stained. There was a foul smell in the corridors of the hotel.

The staff were so nice and friendly and the location was lovely
The narrow hallways doors broke and closed all along it and is the most un family hotel I’ve ever stayed in the pool times aren’t suitable to kids and for the cost

Brilliant customer service and 100% recommend
Customer service was great from everybody especially Gez on reception. Room very clean, beds and pillows comfortable. Location good. Great bar area. Definitely recommend and look forward to staying again.

Lovely time away solo!
My room was beautiful, the fact the hotel adhered to my special requests. Nice areas to read a book.
Loud, brash drunk scouse groups of women acting trashy & lowering the tone with chav behaviour.

Another enjoyable stay at Thornton Hall.
Yet another thoroughly enjoyable stay at Thornton Hall. Particular thanks to Annie on reception and Tom in the restaurant. Both were very accommodating, professional and polite and a credit to the hotel. All other staff members on duty during our stay were equally as helpful also. We look forward to our next stay in the not too distant future. Many thanks.
